रक्षा मंत्री राजनाथ सिंह ने कहा है कि इस समूचे क्षेत्र की समृद्धि और शांति भारत और ऑस्‍ट्रेलिया दोनों लोकतांत्रिक देशों के हित में है। कल नई दिल्‍ली में भारत और ऑस्‍टेलिया की टू प्‍लस टू मंत्रिस्‍तरीय वार्ता के बाद श्री राजनाथ सिंह ने बताया कि उन्‍होंने और विदेश मंत्री एस. जयशंकर ने ऑस्‍ट्रेलिया की विदेश मंत्री मारिस पायने और रक्षा मंत्री पीटर डटन से द्विपक्षीय और क्षेत्रीय मुद्दों पर व्‍यापक विचार-विमर्श किया। श्री सिंह ने अफगानिस्‍तान, हिंद-प्रशांत महासागर में समुद्री सुरक्षा, बहुपक्षीय सहयोग और अन्‍य मुद्दों पर चर्चा की। रक्षा मंत्री ने कहा कि भारत और ऑस्‍ट्रेलिया की भागीदारी मुक्‍त, खुले, समावेशी और समृद्ध हिंद-प्रशांत महासागर क्षेत्र की एक-समान परिकल्‍पना पर आधारित है।

ऑस्ट्रेलिया के विदेश मंत्री मारिस पायने और रक्षा मंत्री पीटर डटन ने प्रधानमंत्री नरेन्‍द्र मोदी से शिष्टाचार मुलाकात की। प्रधानमंत्री ने ऑस्ट्रेलिया के नेताओं के साथ हुई सकारात्‍मक बातचीत की सराहना की और कहा कि यह दोनों देशों के बीच बढ़ती सामरिक सहभागिता का प्रतीक है।
